Southwest Florida Earth Day Events – Kids and Adults

Earth Day takes on a special meaning in Fort Myers, Naples, Cape Coral, Sanibel, and the beaches of Southwest Florida. There’s so much beauty in the area to celebrate. There are many events planned for this weekend that celebrates the natural wonder that surrounds us.

The Conservancy of Southwest Florida will host its event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 18. This kid-friendly event features several animal shows including pythons, sea turtles, and reptiles. Guests also can ride kayaks and electric boats at the event.

Great Egret landing
Great Egret landing at the J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. Wildlife Drive will be free to hikers and bikers on April 18 from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island will host its Earth Day Celebration form 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, April 18. Guests will be able to rent bikes for free from Tarpon Bay Explorers. The bikes must be picked up at Tarpon Bay Explorers. They can then take the bikes on the birder’s paradise that is the refuge’s wilderness drive for free. Kids will enjoy the events in the nature center, including family story time at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.; and Earth Crafts from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium will be celebrating twice on Saturday, April 18. The nature center will host an Earth Day celebration that will feature the animals and butterflies you’d expect. But, special guest Trouper the bilind raccoon will be celebrating his sixth birthday. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and feature a visit from Smokey the Bear. Trouper’s celebration will begin at 1:30 p.m.
